The Golden Girl. The Idea of the most perfect girl to you, no imperfections she’s pretty, happy, small, big whatever you desire. This Idea of the golden girl play big roles in The Great Gatsby, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Babes In The Woods and finally Winter Dreams these four stories are all written by F Scott. Fitzgerald. This golden girl role is played by female characters named Daisy (Gatsby) Daisy (Button) Isabelle (Babes) and Judy Jones (Winter). I will be discussing how the different golden girls compare to each other, what aspects do they show, were those girl’s a waste of time and how they might be shown in a different way to the others during those stories. And how they can relate to our world today. Are golden girls bad or good?

Great Gatsby- Daisy is a very selfish and clueless girl only wanting what’s best for her and doesn’t care about anyone else. She is the golden girl but not for the right reasons she is only recognised for her looks and that’s it. Gatsby and Tom don’t want her for her personality, her looks are just overriding everything else. But Daisy from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is the golden girl for very different reason. She is nice, caring, does not judge and she’s quite friendly. It might not of been clear that she was the golden girl unlike Daisy (Gatsby) but it definitely shows in the end when Benjamin falls in love. Daisy (Gatsby) is also a coward and how narcissistic she is amazes me when she flees the scene of Gatsby’s death with Tom and then later on saying ” I hope she will be a fool, that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world and beautiful little fool” Talking about your child like that is just wrong and that quote really just proves my point. There are alot of people in are world today who act like Daisy (Gatsby) “Gold Diggers.” Men get sucked into their looks and get diverted from the truth, and the girl ends up with what she want an easy way through life and a bunch of money.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button- Daisy the very nice and humble girl. Wanting no more but to live a happy life with Benjamin Button. But it didn’t turn out to be so straightforward. Daisy being the golden girl was very suttle unknown throughout the start of the movie. I had no idea it was going to turn out to be her. Myself thought it was going to be Elizabeth the one who swam across the canal. But once benjamin came back home after his tugboat work during the war they fell in love instantly “Lovin’ you is worth everything to me…” Compared to Isabelle from babes in the woods it was very clear that she was the golden girl because there weren’t many girls there at all and her friend told her that everyone knew she was 16 and hot. “He knows you’re good looking and all that.” She paused— “I guess he knows you’ve been kissed.” Daisy was not treated like this at all, she didn’t have heaps of people wanting her. And that’s why it was so unknown that she was the golden girl. This circumstance is everywhere in are world today, and it totally isn’t a bad thing. Girls like Daisy don’t want to just jump right in like Isabelle and make the mistake with the wrong man so waiting around for the perfect guy is very common just like Benjamin and Daisy did.

babes- Looks clearly play a very important role in being the golden girl. Isabelle and Kenneth have heard of each other before attending this party. As Isabelle walked in Kenneth instantly fell in love based purely on her appearance, and so did Isabelle. “Isabelle,” he whispered “you know i’m mad about you. You so give a darn about me?” the same concept comes through in winter dreams. Mr Hendrick, Mr Sandwood and Dexter all fell in love with Judy Johns based only on her appearance as well. “My god she’s good looking!” said Mr Sandwood. “she always looks as if she wanted to be kissed!” Said Mr hendrick. The good looking concept was also very clear in The Great Gatsby as Gatsby had not seen daisy for years and was still in love, and the only memorie was her face. The Aspect of looks is the most common thing in this world. you rule out people based on their appearance when they might have the same interests and be a really good person. This aspect ties into racism as well people will shy away cause they look dodgy maybe they just can’t afford brand new clothes or a haircut.

winter dreams- Love at first sight seems to be an obvious aspect with Judy Jones, the golden girl. When Judy walked over that hill Dexter, Hendrix and Sandwood all thought she was spectacular and stunning to say the least. But she couldn’t be all that perfect I thought, and Dexter got caught in her trap. They were together that evening and Judy said ” I dont know whats the matter with me. Last night I thought I was in love with a man and to-night I think im in love with you.” Judy being the golden girl made dexter go through the roof with excitement but it was too good to be true. A week later they went on a picnic and after supper she had disappeared in her roadster with another man. This part of the story reminded me of The Great Gatsby, Daisy and Gatsby were chasing each other round the whole story and then something terrible happened. Daisy’s small little brain couldn’t deal with it so she fled with another man leaving Gatsby to die a horrible death. I’m not saying that Judy did that but her and Daisy both led Dexter and Gatsby on. This character of love at first sight and leading people on is so typical these days that heaps on men and woman get caught in it and it can hurt a lot of people.

conclusion- The golden girl. Some good mostly bad but no one is perfect. It became clear that Daisy (Gatsby) and Judy were a complete waste of time and money and had a lot more about them than what meets the eye. On the other hand Daisy (Button) and Isabelle weren’t as similar to each other than Daisy (Gatsby) and Judy. But they definitely showed some other nicer aspects about the golden girl than they did. The moral of the story’s to me is to not get caught in the illusion of the golden girl.

Hi Seth,

You have been busy during the first couple of hours of this assessment!

– Though this is not a strict writing assessment, you do need to pay attention to the mechanical accuracy of your work. At the moment, given the errors in grammar and punctuation, your ideas are all jumbling together.

– Make sure you explain how your evidence(quotes) supports your ideas about the golden girl.

– Make sure you are addressing the author’s purpose and the subsequent message/lesson that is imparted to the reader. Think about what is of value when you anlayse this concept and what you want people to pay attention to.

Sing out if you have any questions!

Hi Seth,

Nice progress!

My comments above are still really relevant. Make sure you read them carefully and use them during the editing stages.

In addition, have a think about:

– Increase your analysis of the connections between the texts. What is significant about them? Why should we, as readers, pay attention to these texts from 100 years ago? Develop this aspect of your work.

– Make sure to address what is of value about your ideas. What can the reader take away from your analysis of this concept?

– Make sure you explain how your evidence(quotes) supports your ideas about the golden girl.
